Re-development for Oulton Abbey

(August 27, 2011)

There have been a number of schemes to develop Oulton Abbey over the years but the last one, which was to provide residential accommodation has been withdrawn.

The Trustees of the Abbey have now instructed a developer who specialises in the re-development of ecclesiastical buildings to bring them into wider use and are planning a mixed development. This will entail replacing the existing nursing home with a purpose built facility, converting the Abbey buildings into retirement apartments and conversion of some of the outbuildings into residential accommodation, along with a number of new-build houses. This will also necessitate some infrastructure changes to provide access.

The developer is looking to work with a locally appointed Working Group to help incorporate community views into the planning and design of the scheme.

There will be a short meeting to appoint members of the Working Group. Five local residents have already put their names forward and are looking for a maximum of five others to join them to represent residents views.

The meeting will take place on Friday 16th September at 6.00 pm at Oulton Village Hall and all residents with a general interest or some expertise in this field are invited to attend.

If you have any comments to make about the proposed development of the Abbey, please contact us or leave your contribution on the guestbook on this website.
